Mount Somers is in a fantastic location to cater for everyone’s idea of leisure. You can relax in our hammock and read a book, or take part in one of the many activities that are on our doorstep.

Mt Somers Village is home to approximately 200 residents. In the Village you will find a General Store, Garage, Tavern, Holiday Park, School and Domain. In less than an hour you can be tramping one of New Zealand’s Great Walks on the Mount Somers Walkway, visiting historical sights and Lord of the Rings locations, skiing on Mt Hutt, mountain biking on the Stour track, jet boating the Rakaia river, fishing in arguably the best salmon fishing river in New Zealand, ballooning over the Canterbury Plains, or relaxing on the beach past Ashburton. There are also 3 stunning golf courses close by – Mayfield, Methven Golf Course and Terrace Downs.

Within a short drive from Mt Somers you will find yourself surrounded by a series of delightful lakes famous for their fishing, unique wildlife, picnic spots and water activities. A little further (extremely scenic) down the road you will find Erewhon Station – a working high country station providing fantastic Clydesdale horse experiences including wagon and saddle rides.
